In February, 1963, a group of people met in Lee & Cledith Sherrell's home to discuss starting a church. Those in attendance agreed that a new church should be started and Bro. Jim McAllister said he would be the minister. They held services in the Sherrell's home until they rented a building at 3108 Harrison, which served as the sanctuary and parsonage. In May, 1963, the church was formally organized as a mission, and they elected Bro. McAllister as pastor. In July, 1963, property at 1112 E. 77th became the home for Central Free Will Baptist Church. In 1969, Bro. McAllister resigned as pastor to begin full-time evangelistic work.
In September, 1969, Bro. Dale Jones of Lebanon, MO was called as the second pastor for Central. His ministry was very fruitful during the five years he served as Central's pastor. Tragically, Bro. Jones died suddenly in December 1973.
In April, 1974, Central called Bro. Bill Evans to be the third pastor. With many in the congregation living south of Kansas City and the lack of adequate parking limiting future growth of the church, it was decided in October, 1976, to purchase 17 acres of land on the north side of Blue Ridge in Grandview. In order to finance this purchase, at a price of $3500 per acre, bonds were sold. In July, 1979, Bro. Evans resigned as pastor in order to assume a new pastorate in Georgia.
November of 1979 saw the church call Bro. Howard Gwartney as the fourth pastor. Under his leadership, the church voted in July, 1980, to begin the process of building a new church facility on the land in Grandview. In August of that year the property on 77th was sold for $146,000, and in December, 1980, Central rented a Seventh Day Adventist Church for services. By the spring of 1981, the new facility in Grandview was ready to begin holding services. Bro. Gwartney continued as pastor until May, 1986, when he resigned in order to start a mission church in Arizona.
June, 1986 saw Central call Bro. Jim Shepherd as the fifth pastor. In August of that year it was decided to add a 40' extension onto the educational wing. The church completed the project without going into debt. In December, 1988, Bro. Shepherd resigned in order to become the President of Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Oklahoma.
In February, 1989, Bro. Kent Hubbard was called as the sixth pastor of Central. He remained here until February 1993, when he resigned.
In January 1994, Bro. Don Walker was called as the seventh pastor in Central's history. By 1998, the property and facility, now valued at over $600,000, was completely debt free. In September, 2001, Bro. Walker resigned in order to move to Florida and begin a mission church there.
In December, 2001, Central called Bro. Alan Kinder as her eighth pastor. He is currently serving in that role today.
